The Delve
Date: January 13th. Cold wind, mild flurries.
"A" Entry Hall--The party returned to Hagfish Hall in the usual fashion. In the entry hall, the painted lady seemed to be ignoring them.
"B" Cage Trap Room--They headed east to the T-junction, then north. Since their last time here, the cage had been re-covered with another white sheet. Creeping in, they surrounded it, stabbing in with pike and polearm. The cage turned out to be empty.
The party carried on to the north. Listening at both doors, they heard nothing to the west, but a baby seemed to be crying behind the northern door. The party nope'd out of that pretty quickly, and carried on to the west. Isabella: "There is no avenue where we want ANYTHING to do with that room."
"C" Sitting Room--They returned to the sitting room where they had previously been ambushed by corpse warriors. Most of its contents had been turned to charcoal by the fire. All the bodies were gone.
After poking around a bit more, the party headed west, coming to a t-junction. Most of the doors were in the usual style of the House, however the one to the north was made of polished stone. The party spread out to listen, but didn't gain any new information. After some deliberation, they headed south.
The Doll
The Doll, drawn by me |
The party came to a parlor. Almost all the furniture within was covered by white sheets. A figure had removed one such sheet, and was dusting the cabinet underneath. When she didn't notice them, the party called out.
The figure turned out to be some form of living doll, the height of a person. She wore a maid's outfit.
The doll was polite, but a little bit spacey. She asked the party if they had wiped their feet on the way into the dungeon, and they told her they would next time.
They asked her a few questions about the dungeon. She reported an uneasy feeling in the room to the west, which the party suspected to be the one where they had encountered "Todd." Another door, leading to the east, was painted black. She urged the party not to go that way, calling it a "Chapel of Darkness."
The doll reported being afraid of the dogs, which she believed to belong to the "monsters that come out of the walls." Most of the dungeon's inhabitants had not given her trouble however, seemingly because she was "of the dungeon."
She also told them that the stone door to the north led into "the crypts."
Encounter!
After talking to the doll for a while, the clock started getting low. Rather then risk drawing a monster towards a perceived civilian, the party retreated north, to the burned sitting room (C).
A beastman approached from the west, attacking with a halberd. After a quick skirmish, the beastman was dead, and Daevon and Dandelion where hurt.
Isabella cast cure wounds on Daevon, and they headed back to the doll's room.
The Doll, again
The party had a few more questions they wanted to ask the doll:
She warned them about the room where they heard a baby crying.
When they asked about her nature, she indicated that there may be others like her in the dungeon.
They decided to ask her who Ophelia was, but at this she became despondent. She returned to her work, politely declining to answer further questions.
Leaving the Dungeon
The party checked the door to the west, confirming that it lead into room "D," "Todd's" room. They decided to leave the long way, rather then pass through his territory without ranged weapons.
The group left with no treasure, but they gained a bunch of new information about the dungeon.
